(AP) ? Former Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega, who was toppled by a 1989 American invasion and later convicted of drug running, was transferred from prison to a hospital on Sunday, possibly because of a stroke, police said.

The 77-year-old Noriega has high blood pressure and apparently suffered a brain hemorrhage, Panamanian National Police said in statement. He was taken from the El Renacer prison where he was serving out his sentence to Hospital Santo Tomas in Panama City.

One of his three daughters, Sandra, was seen entering the hospital, which was guarded by police agents.

In December, Panamanian authorities said Noriega was suffering from mobility due to a previous stroke.

Noriega, who ruled Panama from 1983 to 1989, spent about 20 years in U.S. and French prisons on drug-trafficking and money-laundering convictions, before returning to Panama on Dec. 11, 2011. Shortly after returning home under heavy security, he was seen publicly in a wheelchair being helped by prison authorities.

Noriega was Panama's longtime intelligence chief before becoming its top leader.

While he had been considered a valued CIA asset for years, the U.S. government soured on him, especially after a top political opponent was killed in 1985 and Noriega appeared to join forces with Latin American drug traffickers.

U.S. President George H.W. Bush ordered an invasion in December 1989 to oust him from power. He was captured and brought to Miami.

Prosecutors said Noriega helped the Medellin cocaine cartel ship "tons and tons of a deadly white powder" into the United States. But the defense said the indictment "smells all the way from here to Washington."

Jurors convicted him in April 1992 of eight of 10 charges. Under the judge's instructions, they were told not to consider the political side of the case, including whether the U.S. had the right to invade Panama and bring Noriega to trial in the first place.

When his 17-year sentence ended in 2007, France extradited him on money-laundering charges.

Noriega also had legal troubles awaiting him in Panama, where he had been convicted in absentia of murder, embezzlement and corruption charges that carried a combined 60-year prison sentence.

For now at least, Romney campaign cruising (AP)

LAS VEGAS ? For now at least, Mitt Romney's presidential campaign seems to mostly be going according to plan. A commanding Nevada victory Saturday night underscored as much.

"You have given me your vote of confidence. And this time, I'm going take it all the way to the White House," an upbeat Romney told a raucous crowd gathered at the Red Rock Resort a few miles from the Las Vegas Strip. He ignored his GOP rivals and instead attacked President Barack Obama, insisting the president doesn't deserve credit for the recent drop in the unemployment rate to 8.3 percent.

"Mr. President, we welcome any good news on the jobs front, but it is thanks to the innovation of the American people in the private sector, and not to you," Romney said in Nevada.

Before the Nevada triumph, the former Massachusetts governor had turned in a strong performance in Iowa and won New Hampshire before suffering a serious setback in South Carolina. He recalibrated and went on to win decisively in Florida. Next up are Colorado, where Romney is expected to perform strongly, and Minnesota, which even advisers acknowledge could emerge as a stumbling block.

Romney still has plenty of challenges as he looks to clinch the nomination.

He's shown a tendency to make comments that provide fodder to his critics, saying recently he was "not concerned" about the very poor. The remark prompted backlash among some Republicans worried he would make similar mistakes while running against Obama. Romney's also still working to prove that he can unite skeptical conservatives behind him ? even though entrance polls in Nevada showed he performed strongly.

And chief rival Newt Gingrich insists he'll stay in the race until summer, and he could win more contests, particularly those in the South.

As Saturday began, Romney campaigned in neighboring Colorado, where he won in 2008 and where advisers say they are confident he can perform strongly again.

"I need your vote on Tuesday!" Romney told the overflow crowd at a Colorado Springs warehouse. Instead of focusing on any of his Republican rivals, he attacked Obama's economic policies.

"He doesn't get credit for things getting better," Romney said there.

As confident as Romney's advisers seem about Colorado, they appear equally as nervous about upcoming Minnesota.

He won the state in 2008, too, and many observers have assumed he could easily win again. But Romney aides say Minnesota is unpredictable for many reasons. It's a small electorate with a strong evangelical contingent ? and the caucus system itself can make the outcomes harder to determine in advance.

In a sign that his team may be considering bypassing the state altogether, Romney on Saturday abruptly canceled plans to headline a rally early Monday in Minneapolis. He decided to head straight to Colorado and leave the Minneapolis event to two of his top surrogates ? former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Ambassador John Bolton, one of his most conservative backers. Romney doesn't currently plan to visit before Tuesday's voting.

Minnesota's Republican activists are strongly conservative, which could pose problems for Romney as candidates considered more conservative than him ? Gingrich and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum ? work to impede the former Massachusetts governor's march to the nomination. Even the libertarian-leaning Ron Paul may end up a player in the Minnesota caucuses.

The political mood in Minnesota has soured of late, with a vitriolic struggle that shut down the state government last year. The sizable evangelical community is concerned about social issues. And a win for one of Romney's competitors could fuel concern that the GOP front-runner still hasn't been able to win over conservatives in his party ? or shake the narrative that he is already the presumptive GOP nominee.

Romney himself has sounded increasingly confident in recent days, calling himself the only candidate in the race who can beat Obama. And when his wife, Ann, introduced him at his Nevada victory speech, she cast the win as one not for February but for November.

"Mitt has started to win in states that are very important for the general election," she said, mentioning wins in New Hampshire and Florida. "This state is going to be an important state in the general. ... We're going to need you again next November."

Weight management programs for African-American women are more successful if held in a church, first attempts at weight loss

Los Angeles, CA (February 3, 2012) As a brand new year gets underway, people all over America are resolving to better manage their weight and have a more healthy 2012. According to a new study, those starting new weight loss programs may be surprised to find out that both location and level of experience may influence their success. A recent article published in The Journal of Black Psychology (a journal from the Association of Black Psychologists, published by SAGE) finds that African American women beginning a new group weight loss program are more successful if they are less experienced with weight management and if the program meets in a church.

The authors of this new study monitored two groups of women in the same weight loss program. One group met weekly at a university and the other group met in a church. After 13 weeks, they found that the women meeting in the church setting lost a greater percentage of weight than those who met at the university. Additionally, those women who set out to change their eating and exercise practices for the first time lost a greater percentage of weight than women who had experience managing their weight.

Researchers Tracy Sbrocco, Robyn Osborn, Robert D. Clark, Chiao-Wen Hsiao, and Michele M. Carter studied 55 African American women, ages 18 to 55, involved in a 13-week weight-management program designed to promote long-term diet and exercise practices that produce moderate but lasting weight loss. Of these 55 women, 19 met together in a church and 36 met at a medical school in the area. All participants were weighed and had physical fitness tests at pre- and post-treatment.

The authors provided possible explanations for their findings by stating that women with weight-loss experience may find it more difficult to lose weight when starting a new program because they are less likely to seek and accept social support for their efforts and are unable to shake the bad habits that they have learned in past weight-loss programs. Furthermore, they explained that churches are familiar environments that are conducive to lending encouragement and support.

"Church-based groups have a built-in social support system that allows members to see each other, check in, and follow up on behavior changes," noted the authors. "Whereas individuals who attended the university often rushed into groups as they began and left as soon as the groups ended, individuals in the church setting were more likely to linger before and after group times."

Diet For Exercise - How To Utilize Cardio For Ultimate Weight Loss ...

Cardio is known for it?s capacity to allow you to shed weight, stay fit, and promote a proper life. Everybody knows this basic understanding of cardio working to maximum heart rate. However, the dilemma is that many individuals don?t comprehend the four basic factors behind performing cardio, in terms of targeting different Fitness goals through maximum pulse rate.

You must have an awareness of methods to focus on maximum pulse rate and the way to get it up enough to reach certain Fitness goals. So, I want to supply you with the four priority objectives folks have when confronted with Cardio.

Listed Here Are The Four Significant Reasons:

-Maintaining overall health and fitness consistently

-Reaching certain weight loss (body fat loss) goals to become lean

-Get to a certain aerobic training point such as certain Fitness Goals

-Reach a place of total wellness through maximum conditioning

Those are the four main reasons many individuals perform Cardio and aim to increase their heart rate. Many people have attempted reaching these certain goals, however the problem is that many individuals don?t know how to reach those goals and how to get their heart rate at the proper levels to hit those goals. This is why I?d like to further explain how to reach each of these individual Fitness Goals through Proper Cardio and the exact method you need to implement and follow for maximum heart rate conditioning.

How To Calculate Your Maximum Heart Rate

Now the main problem is that many individuals don?t know how to calculate their maximum heart rate. This is where I want to explain how to do it properly and by which method you need to follow. Now for calculating your heart pace, there are two different specifications by which you?ll calculate it. Either you?re a man, or you?re a woman. So for men, you need to subtract your age from 220, and follow the steps I?ll explain later in the article. For woman, you?re going to subtract your age from 227 and follow the steps I?m going to explain.

Proper Heart Rate For Great All Around Health

Many people struggle on a daily basis to even reach the daily minimum amount of exercises needed to maintain basic, overall health. Many of us are below the standard for basic health and need to get much higher if we want to live longer, healthier lives.

So, how can you maintain good all around health through Cardio, and exactly how does one calculate it so that you recognize that you?re carrying it out right? Well for you to maintain basic overall, great health, you have to perform enough Cardio based from your maximum pulse rate. It?s a smart idea to exercise for 40 minutes each day at 50% of your respective maximum heart pace if you?d like to have a healthy lifestyle with little if any problems.

The Best Way To Calculate Heart rate For Good All Around Health

How do you calculate 50% of your maximum heart rate? Simply do whatever I said initially and subtract your actual age from 220 if you?re a male, and 227 if you?re a lady, you then base 50% off of that number.

For instance, I?m a 19 year old guy therefore I would subtract 19 from 220, which would be 201. I will then multiply 201 by .5, which for you non-mathematical individuals, is going to be same in principle as taking 50% of 201. I?d then calculate it all out and find out that 100.5 would have to be my maximum heart pace when I exercise for 40 minutes per day.

Basically,if I want to sustain overall health and wellness, I?d perform Cardio for 40 minutes per day using a maximum heart rate of 100.5. This is the way I?d calculate to find out if I?m receiving the proper results out of my Cardio exercises for maintaining basic, overall wellness. This is the way you ought to be calculating your maximum heart pace every single day to not slim down, but merely to sustain a healthy way of living that promotes longer life. We?ll jump into what must be done to lose weight in a second.

Proper Heart Rate For Losing Weight

The primary question with lots of individuals seeking to lose fat is, ?How must I lose fat effectively with Cardio?? Many people perform Cardio, but aren?t performing it right or aren?t performing the appropriate exercises to focus on their maximum heart pace. However, we have an uncomplicated way to calculate it out so that you know if you actually are doing enough Cardio, hard enough to shed vast amounts of extra fat. The recommended degree of Cardio you must do for you to effectively lose nearly as much fat as you can, would be to perform Cardio exercises 40 minutes for 5-6 days per week.

Though that may sound easy, there is another part to the maximum heart rate equation. You have to calculate how hard you need to work for that allotted time in order to destroy body fat fast. So, along with performing Cardio for 40 minutes 5-6 days a week, you need to workout at 65% of your maximum heart rate. Simple right?

The Best Way To Calculate Pulse Rate For Effective Weight Loss

Now how would you calculate it so that you understand that you?re working hard enough to really destroy extra fat? All you want do is subtract your actual age from 220 if you?re a guy, or subtract your actual age from 227 if you?re a lady.

When you do this, you then take 65% of this final number and that is exactly the amount your maximum heart pace has to be. Here is the number your heartbeat has to be at through the full Cardio Workout period, in the event you really wish to lose extra fat amazingly quickly and naturally. This is the way you have to calculate your maximum heart rate everyday to be able to lose that weight you want to give up.

Proper Pulse Rate For Aerobic Training

Now for those looking to go past normal weight loss, and actually maximize their stamina and endurance dramatically, you can aim for maximum heart rate that promotes proper Aerobic Training. To perform proper Cardio as hard and as long as you need to, you have to exercises 40 minutes 3-5 times a week at 75% of your maximum heart rate.

This can not merely assist you to lose massive quantities of weight, but it really will push you past that ?weight loss level? and take your stamina and endurance to an entirely new level. This really is basically for individuals who are pretty fit and healthy, who would like to drop just a little amount of extra body fat. Or, this could be for people shooting for high goals, who wish to reach those weight reduction goals in the least period of time.

How To Calculate Heart Pace For Aerobic Training

So, how can you determine if you?re past the average weight reduction Cardio and are also pushing yourself for increased stamina and fitness? Well, all you could do here is take into account that you?re performing Cardio for 40 minutes 3-5 times per week at 75% of your respective maximum heart pace.

How we calculate that is to subtract your actual age from 200 if you?re a guy, or subtract how old you are from 227 if you?re a female. Using this method, you are able to calculate what your pulse rate has to be for the whole time which you perform Cardio. Then, as soon as you have it worked out and know very well what your pulse rate has to be, just ensure that it stays like that and you?ll surpass your normal fitness levels.

Proper Pulse Rate For Absolute Maximum Conditioning

Now this is for those individuals looking to aim superbly high and reach goals that they never thought possible. Basically you?re aiming to get as fit and healthy as your body will possibly allow for. This builds maximum endurance and stamina for high intensity workouts and activities that involves short, powerful bursts of energy.

For these particular sort of Aerobic workouts, you?ll be breathing as hard as possible and you?ll truly be pushing your whole body to the limit. There?s no limit to just how much excess fat it is possible to destroy with only one of these Cardio exercises.

The Best Way To Calculate Heart rate For Absolute Maximum Conditioning

Now, depending on the last three methods, the way to calculate maximum heart rate has stayed just about precisely the same. So, considering that the calculation method has always been stable, what do you think we?re planning to do in order to calculate heart rates for optimum conditioning?

Yup, we?re going to subtract our age from 220 if we?re guys, and subtract our age from 227 if you?re a female. Then, the numbers change and you?re going to take 85% of this final number, and that can become your heart pace. Yes, for Ultimate Conditioning ( for crazy Fitness people) you have to perform Aerobic Workouts at 85% of your maximum pulse rate. That is certainly dynamically significant. The reason behind this high intensity is the fact that you?re training your whole body to become the very best it can be to help maintain ultimate health and vitality for you.

So, just as before you are taking that final number after doing the math, which must be your consistent pulse rate during the entire entire Cardio exercises. Keep in mind this is for individuals seeking to get insanely fit and push their health to their Ultimate limits, but this definitely does promote insane weight loss and will offer you much quicker results. So, if you?re determined, Make sure you go with this method and begin getting Ultimate Weight Loss results.

How To Determine What Your Heart Rate Is During Workouts

Now that you have an understanding of proper heart pace for different goals, you have to be able to determine what your heart rate is throughout exercises. So all you have to do is go out and find the best all-around heart rate monitor and learn to pay careful attention to what your heart rate meter tells you during workouts. Take down information and learn how to take control of your weight loss and health today.
