FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana's NewsCenter) -- Indiana's NewsCenter was told Friday night that a dog and two occupants all got out safe and sound after a fire destroyed their home.
At exactly 9 p.m. Friday the Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 505 Catherine Avenue. When they arrived on scene, smoke was billowing from the house. They found the fire was in the walls of a utility room between the first and second floors. Firefighters had to demolish the wall in order to get to the fire. Once they did, it was under control within a half hour.
Two people and a dog were inside according to officers on scene Friday night. All three got out of the house unharmed. The home is heavily damaged. Red Cross crews were called out Friday night to help care for the family.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries to his finger. The fire is still under investigation.
