Everybody responds differently to the idea of Xbox 360 achievements (or PS3 trophies) differently. Some find the addition of arbitrary goals and an overarching progression system for gaming as a whole to be highly motivating, while others feel like they ruin the experience. Either way, I think everyone with a high GamerScore ??either because they?re completionists or because they play a lot of games ? agrees that they deserve to be rewarded for their efforts. Well, Microsoft is finally answering the call, launching a new Xbox Live rewards system that provides discounts on Xbox Marketplace for players who have earned enough achievement points.
The GamerScore rewards program features a three-tiered system. Players with a GamerScore above 25,000 points will get a two percent discount on Xbox Live Marketplace. Players who have earned between 10,000 and 24,999 points get one percent off. Lastly, any player who?s earned more than 3,000 points will get a special gift on heir birthday. To be clear, it?s not anything too excited about: the gift will have a value of 15 Microsoft points.
The discount applies to just about everything you can buy on Xbox Live, including XBLA games, DLC, movies, etc. The discount will apply when buying Microsoft points, though. It makes sense; a discount on both MS points and actual downloads would essentially be cutting the price twice.
Now, just because you have an insane GamerScore doesn?t mean you?ll automatically start getting the discount. At the moment, Xbox 360 users only?receive?the discount after signing up for the program. In addition to the discount, signing up means subscribing to an Xbox mailing list that will provide a ?rewards statement?, but will also probably send you information about promotions, deals, etc. That said, some of those emails will include surveys, which may or may not net you free Microsoft points.
Even if you don?t take want to take a survey, getting the program means you can finally tell your mom that all those hours of playing Xbox actually got you something. (Besides hours of meaningful entertainment, of course.)

I never really understood the point of baking spaghetti... it just seemed like an extra step that stood between me and eating it. But, there's something about a hot, cheesy casserole straight out of the oven that is extra comforting.Now that I've baked my spaghetti, I totally get it. Baking it in the oven not only lets the cheese get all gooey, but it lets the spaghetti soak up some flavor from the sauce and get all deeeelicious. It's worth the extra 30 minutes.
I made a quick meat sauce using Italian sausage, which is heavily seasoned and provided all of the herbs and spices that were needed to flavor the sauce. If you want to make a vegetarian version of this (with say, mushrooms and green peppers) be sure to add a good tablespoon or so of Italian seasoning blend to make up for the missing spices in the sausage.
This recipe is perfect for freezing, so pack up half of it and save it for a rainy day when you want something warm and comforting!

STEP 1: Dice the onion and mince the garlic. Cook both in a large pot with one tablespoon of olive oil over medium-low heat until soft and transparent (about 5 minutes).
STEP 2: Add the Italian sausage to the pot and cook through (breaking it up into pieces as you cook). Add the tomato paste, stir and cook for about 2-3 minutes more or until the tomato paste takes on a slightly darker color. Add the diced or crushed tomatoes, salt, and sugar. Stir and heat through.
STEP 3: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Bring a large pot of water to a boil (this can be done while you're preparing the sauce in step 2). Cook the pasta according to the package directions (boil for 7-10 minutes). Drain the cooked past and then stir into the meat sauce.
STEP 4: Prepare an 8x8 inch casserole dish by coating with non-stick spray. Add half of the spaghetti mixture to the dish. Sprinkle withe feta cheese. Add the rest of the spaghetti, sprinkle with parmesan cheese, and then top with mozzarella.
STEP 5: Bake the spaghetti for 30 minutes in the 350 degree oven. Let rest for about 10 minutes before cutting into eight pieces and serving.
I garnished with fresh chopped parsley to add color.
Step By Step Photos
Begin the sauce by dicing the onion and mincing the garlic. Cook both of them over medium-low heat in a large pot with olive oil. Cook until soft and transparent - about 5 minutes.
I used hot Italian sausage, but you could certainly use sweet or mild Italian sausage if you prefer it. I used half of this package, which is just slightly more than half a pound and then froze the rest. If you want the spaghetti extra meaty and you can afford it, use the whole package. Italian sausage can also be purchased without casings (in a package like ground beef), which is even easier.
Squeeze the sausage out of the casing and into the pot. Cook the sausage (breaking it up into pieces as you go) until cooked through.
Once the sausage is cooked through, add the tomato paste. Stir and cook the tomato paste for about 2-3 minutes or until the tomato paste takes on a slightly darker hue. The color change is due to the tomato paste caramelizing, which deepens the flavor.
Lastly, add the diced (or crushed) tomatoes, salt, and sugar. Stir to combine and heat through. If you want a smoother sauce, use crushed tomatoes instead of diced. Taste the sauce and add more salt, sugar, or spices if desired.
While you're making the sauce, you can bring a large pot of water to a boil for the pasta. Once it reaches a full boil, add the pasta and cook until tender (7-10 minutes). I also began preheating the oven at this point.
Once the spaghetti is cooked, drain it briefly, and then stir it into the sauce.
Prepare a casserole dish with non-stick spray. Add half of the spaghetti mixture and then top with the feta. My dish is oblong and maybe one inch longer than an 8x8 inch, but an 8x8 should work fine. If you want to use a 9x13 inch pan, you can do it all in one layer with all three cheeses on top.
Add the rest of the spaghetti and then top with the parmesan cheese.
Lastly, add the mozzarella cheese over top. Place in th 350 degree oven and bake for 30 minutes.
Allow the spaghetti to sit for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Ohhhhh yum.

Indonesia's Aceh revokes palm permit after legal challenge
JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesia's Aceh province has revoked a controversial permit issued to a palm oil firm accused of breaching a ban on forest clearing, a spokesman said on Friday, in a rare climbdown following a legal challenge by environmental groups.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has set a goal of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by saving Indonesia's dwindling tropical rainforests, the world's third-largest, a pledge that won the promise of $1 billion from Norway should he succeed.
But the effort is being hampered by soaring global demand for palm oil, used in everything from biscuits to biofuel. Indonesia is the world's top producer of the edible oil, whose exports earn the country $20 billion a year.
Last year, the governor of Aceh breached a two-year ban on issuing permits to log and convert forests by giving permission for PT Kallista Alam develop 1,605 hectares (4,000 acres) of swamp, which includes protected peatlands.
The Aceh governor's move prompted legal action from environmental groups and probes by the police and government bodies, which led to the permit being revoked this week.
A spokesman for the Aceh province said the permit had been revoked on Thursday, and notification sent to Kallista Alam.
"It is important that there is rule of law in business and investing in Aceh, which provides benefits to the community," Muhammad Zulfikar, director of the Aceh chapter of the Indonesian Forum for the Environment (WALHI), said in a statement.
Officials of PT Kallista Alam could not immediately be reached for comment.
Former Aceh governor Irwandi Yusuf issued the permit to open 1,605 hectares of land for palm oil in the Tripa peatland area in August last year.
In the last few years, Indonesia has seen rapid growth in production of palm oil, with output this year expected to be between 23 million and 25 million metric tons (27.6 million tons), with around 18 million metric tons exported.

Angels of Hope helps cancer patients
Hundreds of East Tennessee cancer patients benefit from a volunteer effort to help them around the holidays.
"This says love is all you need," reads a hand made pillow case.
Love motivated UT Medical Oncologist Dr. Susan Huntsinger to start a program to help the cancer patients she treats.
"To be able to do this for them and give them just that little bit of spark that little bit of hope is just a wonderful thing," she said.
She realized the holidays can be especially difficult for her patients.
"In addition to chemotherapy you're trying to have a nice holiday season for your family and you don't feel good, you're tired, and sometimes you just don't have the ability to get to the store and get the things that you need," she explained.
She started Angels of Hope, gift baskets distributed at Christmastime.
It's a full Christmas meal with a gift card for meat.
Wal-mart in Jefferson City donates food, Pilot donates gas cards, and a team of volunteers pitches in to help patients like Stephanie Gourley.
"I received a gift basket from Dr. Susan Huntsinger and her staff. And I said well this is wonderful. You know after you have chemo treatments you don't feel like going to a grocery store to shop for groceries and stand in line," she said.
Stephanie Gourley is a breast cancer survivor.
She's been cancer free since February 29th.
"I fought it from day one. 90% of the battle is just staying positive, surrounding yourself with the right people, staying focused on getting better, staying healthy," she said.
Angels of Hope baskets also include homemade gifts from children.
"They color or draw an angel that we have made for them and then this year we have done pillowcases and there's a quilting square on each one of the pillowcases," Dr. Huntsinger said.
They are unique creations for the patients made by children with love.
"I think this is a way that children are also able to give back," she said.
Donors contribute $50 to support one basket. Angels of Hope will distribute more than 200 baskets this Christmas to cancer patients in need.
Stephanie Gourley said, "It was a real convenience to have staples in the pantry. It was just a blessing in disguise and I appreciate it."
Dr. Huntsinger said, "I love my patients. And I want to see them taken care of the best possible."
"I share the love every day. I give it back," Stephanie said.

UK teen who ran away with teacher found in France
LONDON (AP) ? A 15-year-old British schoolgirl who sparked an international search when she went missing along with her math teacher was found safe and well in France on Friday, police said.
Megan Stammers was located along with 30-year-old Jeremy Forrest, a teacher at her school, police in the southern England county of Sussex.
France's Sipa news agency said the pair were in a car when they were found in the city of Bordeaux in southwestern France. Back in the Sussex town of Lewes, Stammers' stepfather Martin expressed relief at the news.
"We just can't wait to be reunited with her. Our family are overjoyed at the outcome. As you can imagine it's been an absolute emotional rollercoaster," he told reporters.
Police say Forrest has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction and Stammers has been taken into protection. Sipa reported that she would undergo unspecified medical tests.
Stammers failed to show up for school in her hometown of Eastbourne, near Lewes, on Sept. 21, and authorities said she had been spotted on a ferry to France with Forrest the same day.
The parents of both Stammers and Forrest made emotional televised pleas for them to get in touch. Police said the two were located as a result of media coverage of the case in France.
Britain's Channel 4 News reported that the schoolgirl would be flown out of Bordeaux airport back to the U.K. later Friday.

Businesses have so many options to choose from when deciding how to spend their marketing budget that the whole concept of marketing can seem overwhelming (especially for small businesses). Should you utilize tv, radio, pay-per-click, print ads, inbound marketing, email, direct mail, etc. Each has their benefits and drawbacks and there is no right answer for everyone.
If direct mail is an option you are considering, ask yourself these five questions first. They will help you to determine if it will be an effective marketing channel for your organization.
1. Is my product or service a good fit? Items that have a small sale value and/or little chance for repeat business are probably not a good fit for direct mail. Large ticket items or smaller sales that generally result in recurring revenue are much better fits and will usually see a better ROI.
2. Can I mail to the right people? The best design combined with the most compelling offer will stall fall flat if it isn't sent to the right prospect. Start by building a profile(s) of your best customers and then use that profile to find other prospects. If you are marketing to consumers, look for patterns related to age, gender, income, education level, life stage, etc. If you are marketing to businesses, look for common denominators related to company revenue, title, number of employees, industry, location, etc.?
3. Do I have an offer? Building your brand and increasing your exposure in the marketplace certainly has its place in a marketing strategy. But direct mail is not the right channel for it. One of the areas that gets people in trouble here is that there are two parts. You need to get 750 hours or more per year, AND you need to get more hours in real estate activities than in any other trade or business. You can?t simply get a real estate agent license and hope to qualify.
The ?Material?Participation??Test
The second part is the material participation test. This means that you must have 500 hours or more per property in material participation. ?The good news is that you can combine hours with a spouse for this one. The bad news is that it?s 500 hours per property. If you have 10 properties, that means a total of at least 5,000 hours. There is a way around that.? It?s called aggregation.? We?ll cover more on that in a minute.
The biggest challenge you can face with the material participation test is an IRS challenge to the activities themselves. They want to see that you put the active in activity.
If you have a property manager, you?re going to have a tougher time proving that you are involved with the business. They want to see that you are active and doing something, not sitting in your home office checking in via the Internet and phone.

Mass. chemist allegedly mishandled evidence
BOSTON?? Faced with the daunting task of evaluating more than 34,000 drug cases handled by a Massachusetts chemist accused of misconduct, prosecutors and defense attorneys are starting with 1,140 cases of people who are already serving prison sentences based on potentially tainted evidence.
David Meier, a defense attorney and former prosecutor appointed to help sort through the legal quagmire created by the chemist's alleged actions, on Monday turned over a list of 690 people currently serving sentences in state prisons and 450 who are currently serving sentences in county jails. Samples in all of the cases were tested by chemist Annie Dookhan, who state police say failed to follow testing protocols and deliberately mishandled evidence in some cases.
Meier said it is unclear how many of those samples might have been tainted by Dookhan's actions, but said both sides want to deal first with people who are already in prison.
"That is our first priority, people who are presently incarcerated," he said.
Meier said lawyers in those cases will now have to work out resolutions on a case-by-case basis.
"The merits and any alleged issues in any one of those cases is for prosecutors and defense attorneys and judges to determine," he said.
State police have said Dookhan was involved in testing more than 60,000 drug samples involving about 34,000 defendants during her nine years at the Boston lab. Dookhan resigned in March during an internal investigation by the state Department of Public Health, which ran the lab until state police took over on July 1 as part of a budget directive.
Meier, who was appointed by Gov. Deval Patrick last week, met Monday with a group of district attorneys, defense attorneys and public safety officials. After the meeting, Meier said he turned over a list of currently incarcerated defendants whose cases were worked on by Dookhan, either as the primary chemist, who performs an initial test on a drug sample, or as the secondary chemist, who performs a second, confirmatory test.
The list does not include thousands of people who are currently awaiting trial, are on probation or are serving federal sentences in cases in which Dookhan tested drug samples.
Since the lab was closed last month, judges in Suffolk and Norfolk counties have already begun to hear motions filed by defense attorneys seeking bail reductions for drug defendants awaiting trial in cases handled by Dookhan. Prosecutors have agreed to many of those motions, citing possibly tainted evidence.
Dookhan hasn't been charged, but the state attorney general's office is conducting a criminal investigation.

On Monday, a judge in Boston agreed to put the sentences of career criminal David Huffman on hold and set bail for him at $75,000 cash, with GPS monitoring. The 55-year-old Huffman had pleaded guilty in August to trafficking in heroin and cocaine, possession of oxycodone with the intent to distribute and unlawful possession of ammunition and a firearm as an armed career criminal He began serving concurrent seven- to 10-year sentences last month.
Huffman's lawyer, Bernard Grossberg, said the next step will likely be for the defense to ask that Huffman be allowed to withdraw his guilty plea.
"He would not have pleaded guilty to the gun charges if it was not part and parcel of his plea on the drug charges," Grossberg said.
Jake Wark, a spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Dan Conley, said prosecutors opposed the motion to put his sentence on the gun charges on hold. He said the gun evidence was tested in a different lab and was unaffected by the drug lab scandal.
"This is an individual who's been involved in just about every type of property and violent crime over the course of 40 years. He is a mid-tier narcotics distributor and was a plague on the community," Wark said.
"We believe the judge should have treated the two cases separately," he said.
Dookhan has not responded to repeated requests for comment. Her father, Rasheed Khan, told The Associated Press that she had been "bullied and abused," but he would not say by whom.
"No one has heard her side of the story," Khan said outside his home in Kissimmee, Fla., on Saturday.
State police have said Dookhan failed to follow testing protocols and deliberately mishandled evidence in some cases.
In a letter sent to defense attorneys earlier this month, Max Stern, the president of the Massachusetts Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, said he was told during a meeting with state officials that Dookhan was accused of deliberately tampering with evidence, including the weight of drug samples, which can affect the length of sentences given to drug defendants.
