In what shouldn?t qualify as much of a surprise, the Texas Rangers will bring up 19-year-old shortstop Jurickson Profar on Saturday when rosters expand to 40, reports Gerry Fraley of the Dallas Morning News.
Many prospects have been given their first tastes of the big leagues in a September call-up, and Profar?s promotion could signal the start of a long major league career.
Profar is ranked as the top position prospect in baseball by Baseball America and and the No. 2 position prospect by MLB.com, behind Baltimore Oriole third baseman Manny Machado. A native of Curacao, the 5?11?, 165-pound Profar is hitting .281 with 14 home runs and 62 RBIs for Double-A Frisco.
