St. Anthony's New Medical Pavilion Touted as the Future of Healthcare

The halls are empty for now, state-of-the art medical equipment reflecting shafts of sunlight. Workers put on the finishing touches. In a few short days, after final approval from the state, St. Anthony?s $26 million facility will open its doors.

?There?s nothing like this from here to Longmont,? says Tami Taylor, MSN, RN, CEN, administrative director, clinical services. ?Moving healthcare closer to these people up here is what we wanted to do.?

Part of Centura Health, St. Anthony?s North Medical Pavilion is a 48,000 square foot health mecca with a 24-hour emergency department, as well as outpatient services including digital mammography, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound and general radiology. It will serve 23 zip codes and up to 623,000 people.

The visionaries behind St. Anthony?s are hoping for a better medical experience from the get-go.

?Patients will be immediately bedded,? explains Taylor. ?That way they get to a physician quicker. Convenience is key; we know that?s what patients want.?

Along with stellar healthcare of course. And that?s where all of the new equipment comes in, Taylor notes, with items specific to the needs of a pediatric patient as well. There is also a helipad, if someone needs a higher level of care and Flight for Life. Lab services and a pharmacy also can be found on premises.

Perhaps the biggest change from a standard hospital, and where the ?future of healthcare? tag seems most evident, is in its preventative programs. The facility will offer mammography classes from a preventative healthcare perspective starting October 1 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

No other classes are scheduled yet, but Taylor promises many more will be coming.? ?What I can tell you is that we?ll be having expanded services up here very soon,? Taylor says with a smile.

In the meantime, the focus will be on customer service and patient care. The doctors, staffed by Apex Emergency Physicians Group, are all emergency medicine board certified and all of the nurses are experienced in emergency nursing. Then there are the radiology techs, all of whom are trained in multiple modalities.

?We wanted to hire a higher skill set, someone who is competent to do all of those things,? says Taylor of CT scans, MRIs and the like. ?We can get those results to the physician quicker.?

St. Anthony?s actually places a lot of emphasis on its staff, and making the facility a friendly place for them as well.

?If you have a happy staff, it?s going to filter down to your patients,? Taylor says.

There are equipment redundancies so staff won?t have to scramble to find something, cut-throughs in different parts of the facility that allow for easier movement and transport, and lots of different procedures to save steps and time.

?We had many, many applications from people who wanted to work here and we chose the best of the best,? Taylor says.

And the hundreds of thousands of people who live nearby will be the happy beneficiaries of that.

• St. Anthony North Medical Pavilion is a one-stop-shop for medical services with a 24-hour, state-of-the-art emergency department, an advanced imaging center offering outpatient services including digital mammography, CT Scan, MRI, Ultrasound and general radiology. The facility has laboratory services and a pharmacy to service patients who are treated at the facility.
• With 20 emergency bays, the expectation is that there will be very low, if any, wait time. The patient will sign in as soon as they enter the ER and will be directly?taken to receive treatment.
• Two units in the ER are specially equipped for trauma patients, positioned directly adjacent to the emergency vehicle pull-up to ensure immediate care to high-risk patients.
• The facility is equipped with a helipad for a Flight for Life Colorado? helicopter near the emergency vehicle pull-up. If a patient does need specialized care, they can be quickly transported to St. Anthony North Hospital, or the closest facility that can care most appropriately for the patients? needs.
