Four days small business competition was held at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad from 7th to 10th October 2012 for students. The competition was carried out to cultivate entrepreneurial skills among youth through organizing business competition to address leading causes (psychological, economical and social) of their lacking the capacity for launching their own businesses. It was found out that students seriously lack the consciousness of starting a business and the capacity for being their own boss. A business competition under the name of ?Show Your Creativity? was organized in the leading University of Agriculture, Faisalabad by providing small loan money to students to establish businesses and make money. Extraordinary scenes were witnessed during the competition. The event was attended by over 5,000 people of all ages. Young students established different stalls of food, household items, jewelry, embroidery, sports, etc. A total of 19 young teams participated in the competition. The winning team earned a profit of Rs. 28,000 in just four days.
The competition was organized in the light of MOU signed between YES and University of Agriculture to introduce and institutionalize the concept of social entrepreneurship. It was felt that loose and free environment should be created that advocate tolerance toward failure and inspire students to be entrepreneurial. The students were encouraged toward adventure. The said strategy contributed immensely in rolling out the social entrepreneurship project by creating a kind of entrepreneurship practice atmosphere among students. According to the Chairman, Rural Sociology Department ?It is first time that such an event has taken place in our university where so many people had participated. The competition has developed a new mindset among students that they can also earn and run a business.?
