Monik Nordine is one of BC's Cultural Treasures. Her artistry transcends virtuoso technique and encompasses the full range of musical communication. Monik leads the Victoria Jazz Orchestra and her own group, Departure, released their first album in November of 2010. They have been featured in many festivals and concert series since then and completed a festival tour in 2012. Based on some of the jazz fusion experiments of the 1970's, Departure plays mainly original music written by Monik Nordine and Brent Jarvis with an ear to Keith Jarrett and Chick Corea.

Recently, Monik was featured as the jazz saxophone soloist with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra.
"A naturally gifted and brilliant talent, Monik's improvising and composing chops are top notch. She approaches the saxophone with elegance and ease. Her compositions are engaging and intelligent. A witty humanitarian and a highly creative musician, Monik Nordine is a musician that both jazz audiences and musicians will love. "- Kerilie McDowall, CHLY Radio, Nanaimo, BC
