Travel is a complicated affair. Once you've sorted time off, airfare, and the like, you're still faced with the harrowing prospective of what to do when you get to wherever you're going. Desti: Bay Area Travel Guide looks to help you along with that last part, provided that you're traveling to California's bay area.
Desti behaves in many ways like both Yelp and Siri. You type in a question or a general idea of what you?re looking for (Napa Valley wine tours, for example) and it provides recommendations in the area.
Unlike Yelp, however, Desti doesn't provide user reviews of the attractions, accommodations, or restaurants. Unlike Siri, Desti doesn't help you find anything other than restaurants, attractions, or accommodations so don't bother asking it where to find a gas station or a nearby hospital.
Siri, it is not
It's hard to fault Desti for its laser-like focus, but I'm going to do it anyway. This app is a great way to plan daytrips and romantic getaways in the bay area, but will be of absolutely zero use to you if you're looking to travel elsewhere.
Additionally, Desti is unduly optimistic of what will happen to you in the course of your travel and does not allow you to add destinations like pharmacies, tire repair centers, or medical clinics to your itineraries.
This severely limits Desti's utility and makes it a poor choice for travel planning with both Yelp and Siri available for iPads. Thankfully, Desti is free so if you're looking for a top-level travel guide for Napa Valley and the surrounding areas you might want to consider bringing it along.
